Veteran Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has stirred conversations once again after making a bold statement about the challenges faced by single mothers raising male children. Speaking during a candid interview with Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana, the actor outlined why he strongly believes that a single woman cannot fully raise a boy into a man without the influence of a father figure or male role model.

The actor, who is well-known for his unapologetic and straightforward opinions, explained that women are naturally built to nurture and love, but when it comes to raising a boy into a strong man, a male presence is essential. According to him, the absence of this critical factor could lead to a boy growing up without discipline, structure, or the resilience needed to navigate life as a man.

“A woman can’t raise a man. You can’t, you’re not built for it,” he said firmly. “A single mother cannot raise a man properly. You need a male influence – go get your brother that’s doing well, your father, or even any trustworthy man. There has to be a male presence in raising a boy child.”

He further emphasized that without the stern presence of a male figure, the child risks growing into what he described as a “weak man.” He argued that such men often mirror the same traits of irresponsibility or abandonment as the men who left their mothers, perpetuating a cycle of broken homes. “You need somebody that will discipline him, tell him ‘No’ as often as possible, and put him in the grind,” Iyke added.

His remarks have sparked heated debates online, with some agreeing that male mentorship is crucial for boys, while others have criticized his comments as undermining the efforts of countless single mothers who successfully raise strong, disciplined, and responsible sons without fathers in the picture.

Jim Iyke, known for his decades-long career in Nollywood and his outspoken personality, has never shied away from controversial statements. This latest opinion adds to the ongoing societal debate about parenting roles, gender expectations, and the evolving dynamics of modern families.
