Marlian Records boss, Naira Marley, has opened up with fresh revelations about late singer Mohbad’s financial dealings while he was signed to the label, alleging that the artiste repeatedly directed him to send payments into an account belonging to his partner’s mother rather than his own or that of his biological mother.

Speaking during a recent interview, the singer recalled how Mohbad first contacted him on November 16, 2020, informing him that he was receiving treatment for malaria at a hospital. According to Naira Marley, this proved that Mohbad was not entirely opposed to seeking hospital treatment, contrary to what some people had claimed about him. He explained that just a few weeks later, on December 21, 2020, Mohbad sent him a bank account number with the name Adesanya Justina Olajumoke and instructed him to ensure all payments were made to that account moving forward.

Naira Marley disclosed that he obliged Mohbad’s request even though the account name raised suspicions. He noted that after making payments into the account, Mohbad expressed gratitude on December 30, 2020, which coincided with the one-year anniversary of his signing to Marlian Records. The pattern, however, did not end there. On December 31, 2020, and again on January 25, 2021, Mohbad still insisted that all payments should be sent to the same Olajumoke account. According to Naira Marley, Mohbad claimed at the time that the account belonged to his mother.

The Marlian Records chief explained that he became increasingly concerned when he noticed the name on the account, Adesanya Justina Olajumoke, did not match that of Mohbad’s real mother, Abosede. He claimed that further checks revealed the account in question actually belonged to Wunmi’s mother, not Mohbad’s. Naira Marley added that this discovery prompted him to invite Mohbad to his residence for a private conversation, as he wanted to understand why the late artiste was diverting his earnings through someone else’s bank account.

He said …

“On November 16, 2020, he sent me a message that he was at the hospital treating malaria. Those people saying he is scared of the hospital can see this.”

“On Dec 21, 2020, Mohbad sent me an account with the name: Adesanya Justina Olajumoke. He said that was his new account where money should be paid into.”

“I was like this is not your account but anyway I paid his money there. On Dec 30, 2020 he appreciated me after his one year anniversary of being my artiste.”

“On Dec 31, 2020, he sent me the same Olajumoke account to pay money into and he still insisted it was his account. On Jan 25, 2021 he sent me that same Olajumoke account and said it was his mum’s account.”

“I knew that wasn’t his mum’s name. It was Wunmi’s mother’s account. His mother’s name is Abosede. I was like what’s going on, I then called him over to my place and spoke to him.”
