Popular Nigerian singer and Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, has finally broken his silence as he gives a detailed account of his own side of the story regarding the sudden demise of his former signee, Mohbad.
In a lengthy narration, Naira Marley explained that he was outside the country at the time of Mohbad’s death, stressing that the news came to him as a shocking blow. According to him, he initially could not believe it when someone broke the news to him, thinking it was just another rumor or publicity stunt. However, the reality soon dawned on him when the news spread rapidly across social media platforms.

The singer stated that he was devastated not only by Mohbad’s passing but also by the flood of accusations that immediately followed, with many blaming him for having a hand in the tragedy. Naira Marley insisted that he had nothing to do with Mohbad’s death, pointing out that the allegations were baseless since he was not even in Nigeria at the time. He revealed that he could provide evidence such as passport stamps and videos proving his absence from the country.
He also addressed the viral narratives and videos that surfaced after Mohbad’s death, particularly those from the NDLEA incident and the altercation with Mohbad’s former manager in October 2022. According to Naira Marley, these clips were deliberately resurfaced to tarnish his image and mislead the public into believing he was connected to Mohbad’s demise.
Speaking further, he lamented that he was robbed of the chance to properly mourn Mohbad because of the constant accusations and pressure. He expressed sadness that even when he tried to grieve privately, the public continued to accuse him of murder, which left him emotionally broken. He described the period as a painful one where he could neither focus on his work nor find peace of mind.
Naira Marley also mentioned that the viral video involving his associate, Sam Larry, confronting Mohbad was taken out of context. He explained that the incident in the video did not happen on the day of Mohbad’s death, noting that Sam Larry was also not in Nigeria at the time. He said that, upon asking questions, Sam Larry clarified that it was merely a confrontation about money and that Mohbad was never physically harmed during the encounter.
The singer concluded by emphasizing that the accusations against him were orchestrated by certain individuals paying blogs to spread false narratives. He called for fairness and urged that proper investigations should focus on those who were with Mohbad in his final hours, rather than unjustly accusing him.
