Popular and outspoken pastor, Odumeje, has publicly criticized Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, calling him a disappointment to Nigeria and alleging that God is displeased with his actions—or lack thereof—towards the nation. According to Odumeje, despite Dangote’s wealth and influence, he has not done enough to benefit Nigerians who consume his products or to positively impact the country at large.
The pastor delivered these remarks during an engaging church session with his congregation, where he passionately addressed the moral and social responsibilities of Nigeria’s billionaires. Odumeje stressed that wealth carries with it an obligation to serve the people and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
According to Odumeje, Dangote’s highly anticipated refinery project, rather than reducing fuel prices as expected, has allegedly contributed to increasing the cost of petrol, which he interprets as a failure to fulfill national responsibility. He further noted that the billionaire has not made substantial efforts to alleviate the struggles of Nigerians who depend on his business products and ventures for daily living.
He passionately said, “That’s why I tell Dan Gote, come and see me. If you do not come and see me, your refinery. I ask God, what is the problem? Because he has never done anything for the entire Nigeria that consuming all his product. For him to be answering the richest man in Africa is a disappointment to Nigeria. So that man do not fit that man. Let him show me. what they have done for Nigeria, even that refinery, did he make the fuel to come down? As the richest man in Africa, he made that refinery even increase the fuel more. That is the anger of God. He tell me, if it did not come down, then I would tell him, God is not happy with you.”
The fiery message from Odumeje has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many debating the responsibilities of wealthy individuals in Nigeria and the impact of Dangote’s business ventures on the country’s economy and everyday citizens. Observers note that Odumeje’s remarks combine social commentary with a moral and spiritual perspective, calling on wealthy Nigerians to go beyond personal enrichment and actively contribute to national development.
The pastor’s message also highlights broader concerns about accountability, leadership, and ethical stewardship of wealth. Odumeje urged billionaires to consider the legacy they leave behind and to ensure that their riches serve not only personal interests but also the welfare and prosperity of the society in which they operate.
