Popular life coach, writer, and outspoken social commentator, Solomon Buchi, has stirred a heated debate online after openly criticizing well-known Nigerian media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, over her recent pregnancy announcement in which she credited God for answering her prayers.

The backlash began shortly after Makinwa revealed that she had prayed earnestly for years, asking God to make her a mother before turning 40. According to her, the pregnancy was not just a dream fulfilled but also a direct testimony of divine intervention, which she joyfully shared with fans and followers while celebrating the news of her upcoming motherhood.

However, reacting through a video he posted on his official Instagram page, Buchi, while congratulating the 39-year-old on finally achieving her dream of motherhood, firmly criticized her decision to tie the announcement to divine grace. He stated that although there was nothing wrong with desiring children, linking it to God’s will outside the structure of marriage created what he described as a “distorted testimony.”

“I sincerely celebrate with Toke Makinwa because it is clear this is something she truly longed for as a woman, and I am genuinely glad she is happy. But my concern is this constant trend of mixing God and Jesus into decisions that clearly go against biblical standards. She mentioned how she had an agreement with God that she must become a mother before 40, but according to the scriptures, parenthood is meant to happen inside marriage, not outside of it,” Buchi said in the viral clip.

He continued by stressing that bringing God into such narratives was misleading, adding that while people have the right to share their journeys, it was wrong to “spiritualize” actions that did not align with the Christian faith. “The truth is, we need to be careful not to mislead people. Yes, you can share your story, but there’s no reason to frame it as if God endorses having a child outside wedlock. By God’s own standard, parenting is only right when it is rooted in the covenant of marriage,” he insisted.

Buchi’s remarks immediately went viral and sparked a wave of reactions on social media platforms, with fans, followers, and fellow celebrities weighing in. While a number of people supported his stance, agreeing that biblical teachings must be respected, many others rushed to defend Makinwa, insisting she had every right to express gratitude to God in her own way and to celebrate her pregnancy testimony without judgment. Several celebrities even praised her for being bold and honest about her journey.

The controversy has since continued to dominate conversations online, with thousands debating issues of faith, morality, personal freedom, and how individuals choose to interpret their relationship with God in matters as personal as childbirth and parenting.
