The Nigerian Police have officially reacted to a viral video making rounds online, which captured a group of police officers allegedly counting bundles of money inside their patrol vehicle after a routine operation.
The video, which was first shared by an X user, quickly gained massive attention and stirred mixed reactions across social media platforms. In the short clip, the uniformed officers could be seen visibly focused on counting stacks of naira notes while seated in their patrol van, an action that has now sparked suspicions from members of the public regarding the source of the funds.
Responding to the viral clip, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bright Edafe, stated that the Force is fully aware of the video and investigations have already commenced. He reassured Nigerians that the matter would not be swept under the carpet and that the command remains committed to transparency and accountability.
He said …
“Trust the command, we are on it and details will be posted soon. Nigerians should be patient as the case is being thoroughly looked into.”
This development has continued to generate a wave of online debates, with several Nigerians taking to social media to share their opinions. While some accused the officers of handling proceeds of bribery allegedly collected during their patrols, others jokingly suggested the officers were simply counting their ‘salaries’ in an unusual manner.

@phemidawhiz stated: “They reached the egunje target for the day and need to decide the sharing formula before reporting back to the station. Also deduct bribery operational expenses. Such things need to be done calmly.”

The video has since been reshared multiple times, sparking fresh conversations about corruption, accountability, and the public perception of Nigerian police officers while on active duty.
