A thief who allegedly gained access into an apartment after forcefully damaging and dismantling an aluminum window was apprehended by residents and compelled to practically demonstrate how he executed the unlawful act. The incident, which has since gone viral online, was captured in a video and has stirred diverse conversations across social media platforms.
According to details shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, the suspect was cornered after his attempt to unlawfully enter a home was foiled. In the viral footage, the young man could be seen clinging awkwardly to the window frame while several bystanders surrounded him, ordering him to repeat step by step the exact method he used in dismantling the aluminum parts of the building in order to force entry.
In the clip, the thief, visibly distressed, was heard crying and stuttering as he tried to explain the process. Holding a tool in his hand, he illustrated how he removed some sections of the window fixture, much to the shock of the onlookers. The crowd, made up of both men and women, appeared determined to make him reveal his tactics, perhaps as a way to expose his methods or to humiliate him publicly for his actions.
As the disturbing video spread across different online platforms, it attracted widespread comments from Nigerians who weighed in with strong opinions. While some condemned the act of theft and supported the community’s decision to make him reenact the crime, others criticized the public humiliation, describing it as an act of dehumanization rather than justice.
See some reactions below:
@VivianRora: “Why are they dehumanizing him? 😆 People on X said we shouldn’t dehumanize. The punishment already looks more like ridicule than correction.”
@THE_CRAFT3R: “Being a thief in Nigeria, in this era, has to be the deadliest job on planet earth. People are ready to inflict untold pain on a thief, not just because of the crime itself, but also due to accumulated anger from bad leadership and the harsh economy.”
@StackedSam: “Some of them shouting are actually learning from him. Instead of shaming him, they are probably noting the techniques he used to break in.”
@Honormeh_aganga: “Is this pure wickedness in the hearts of some Nigerians, or just the fallout of a failed government? Because why would anyone feel so frustrated as to destroy another person’s property? Desperation is written all over the crime.”
@Amaogudu: “After this, he will still come on Facebook and X to abuse people for criticizing Tinubu’s government. He will argue that everything has become better in Nigeria and that only the opposition are unhappy with APC leadership. Hypocrisy at its peak.”
@Brotherchibyk: “People are very wicked. Jobs are everywhere if you are willing to work. Instead of breaking into someone’s home, why not go out there, find a local job, and work hard for your money?”
