A young Nigerian woman has broken down in tears as she narrated her painful journey of becoming a mother of two children, despite doing everything within her power to avoid ending up as a single mother. According to her, the heartbreaking reality came as a result of ignoring the obvious red flags in her relationship with her boyfriend.
The emotional story was revealed in a video shared on the popular social media platform TikTok by user ekaftv, where the woman openly spoke about her struggles and frustrations while appealing to the father of her children to finally step up and take responsibility for his role as a parent. In the touching video, she begged for his support in the areas of schooling, feeding, and general welfare of the children, suggesting that even if they had to split responsibilities on a 50/50 basis, it would be a huge relief for her.
Recalling how the entire ordeal began, she explained: “I met this guy when I was still very young, and I had my first child while I was in secondary school. After giving birth, that was when I started noticing the red flags.”
According to her, the man denied the pregnancy at first and even refused to accept DNA tests, despite knowing fully well that he was the father. She emphasized that he was dishonest in his denial because he knew she was not a wayward person. After the first child, their relationship was on and off, breaking up and reconciling several times, mostly due to his excessive womanizing and irresponsible behavior.
She continued her narration: “After the whole drama surrounding the first child, I had already made up my mind not to have another baby. I was determined to focus on raising my first child because he is ten years older than his brother. But this man came back again, begging me and promising that he had changed. I didn’t want to end up as a single mother, so I gave him a second chance. Sadly, that second chance was not worth it because here I am today, a single mom of two.”
Opening up further about her childhood, the woman revealed that she herself grew up without the care of her mother. She was raised solely by her father, as her mother had walked away from the family. “My mum is not late, she just left. I grew up not knowing her, not seeing her, and not experiencing her love. We only recently met after so many years,” she said. This experience, she reflected, might have influenced her poor decision-making in relationships, almost as though she was reliving a generational curse.
Speaking about the red flags she ignored in her partner, she explained: “The real red flag was that he is a mummy’s boy and very lazy. I ended up getting pregnant for a lazy man probably because I am hardworking. He never had a job, and we were living in his mother’s house. At some point, I got tired of the situation and decided to leave. I even told him clearly, if you are serious about marriage, go rent an apartment and then come back for me and your children. Instead of doing that, I later heard he moved back to his mother’s house and brought another lady there.”
Expressing her pain and struggles as a single parent, she pleaded once more: “He should please come and take responsibility for his children. It has not been easy feeding them three square meals daily, 24/7, with no form of support. I am not the type of woman who sells her body or does questionable things for money, even though some people have tagged me a prostitute. All I ask is that he takes responsibility.”
The young woman went further to admit that she is not perfect and that like everyone else, she has her flaws. However, she stressed that her current reality has left her in deep emotional and financial distress. She also hinted that her estranged partner might soon be interviewed to share his own side of the story.
